2015 U.P. BEACON AWARD
“Lighting the Way to Early Success”
Celebrating April 2015 as the Month of the Young Child

Nominations are now being accepted U.P.-wide for the annual UPAEYC Upper Peninsula BEACON Award.  This award is designed to acknowledge the important contributions of the special people who are “Lighting the Way to Early Success” through early childhood education and services for young children in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Please submit your nomination no later than Monday, MARCH 30, 2015.

UPAEYC is seeking nominations for outstanding individuals or organizations from a broad field of Early Childhood Education and Services.  Nominations will be considered from either of the following two categories:

1. Exemplary Early Childhood Professional
The nominee can be an Early Childhood Teacher or Child Care Provider with at least two years of experience working with young children (birth to age 6). He or she should have consistently demonstrated outstanding abilities with children and/or their families. (Examples: Head Start/Early Head Start teacher, Day Care provider, Kindergarten teacher, etc.)

OR

2. Outstanding Partner in Early Education and Care:
The nominee can be in an early childhood support role (Examples: therapist, parent, paraprofessional, advocate, volunteer, or a community resource, board, organization, library, business, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:
A variety of qualifications will be considered. You may find some of the following categories helpful in describing the nominee’s abilities or contributions to the field such as:

Service to Children (developmental appropriateness, functionality, creativity, flexibility, continuity)
Family Involvement (responsive to individual family needs, effectively implementing individualized family programs with creativity & flexibility)
Coordination of Resources (integrating/coordinating services with regular education and/or therapy, & other community services; facilitating transitions)
Contributions to the Field (using/sharing innovative practices; research and development; providing professional development, community service and/or support)

Award announcement will be made during April’s Month of the Young Child.
Recipients will be presented their awards at the spring UPAEYC Annual Recognition Luncheon.
